The Pulse Survey was developed by the System exChange Team at Michigan State University, BC Pulse, and an advisory group representing organizations providing health, education, and financial supports in the Battle Creek community. The survey was funded through a grant received from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation.
The Targeted Population
The survey was given to vulnerable families in Battle Creek in summer 2014. Individuals were identified as vulnerable by meeting one or more of the following criteria:
- Families living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level
- Teenagers who are pregnant or have children
- Individuals who identified themselves as a racial/ethnic minority
- Individuals/Families receiving supports at WIC, Nurse Family Partnership, or Head Start
Reading the Charts
The number of respondents (referred to as “N”) is noted in a bar at the bottom of each data slide. Next to this number is the population that answered this question (teenage moms, adults, etc). --See attached Report
